Aspire Academy Trust Early Years Building

The client successfully obtained planning permission to replace an existing Elliott building with a new custom-designed two-classroom single-storey structure to accommodate the expanding Early Years provision at one of their schools. We were selected for the project through a competitive tender process based on our strong bid and track record of designing and constructing similar buildings for local schools and academies in recent years.

Translating the approved planning designs into reality, we opted for a high-performance single-skin timber frame structure clad in Siberian larch, supported by standard strip foundations and a beam and block floor. The roof was covered with the Alumasc Euromono built-up felt system, complemented by aluminium windows, doors, fascias, and rainwater goods. Situated at the school’s main entrance with prominent road frontage, the building was meticulously designed to blend seamlessly with the existing Victorian stone main school building while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic appeal.

We prioritised energy efficiency by incorporating LED lighting, Air Source heating for hot water, and underfloor heating. The structure was also designed to accommodate future Solar PV installation on the roof. Handling all design aspects in-house, from substructure to finishes, we ensured a cohesive approach that encompassed civils, superstructure, windows, doors, HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems, internal and external finishes, and landscaping.

The project was successfully completed within the agreed timeframe and budget, with our in-house team managing a significant portion of the work, including internal and external finishes, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC installations, passive fire protection, external decking, and landscaping. Local subcontractors from Cornwall, all located within an hour of the site, were carefully selected from our approved supply chain to deliver the remaining aspects of the project, ensuring a seamless and efficient construction process.
